Web Threat Protection

Device-level protection against malicious sites, phishing, unsafe downloads, and high-risk web content.

Overview

Web Threat Protection helps reduce the risk of users accessing malicious websites, phishing pages, unsafe downloads, or high-risk web content during normal browsing. Protection is applied at the device level through Bitdefender GravityZone endpoint security controls, including web access control, antiphishing protection, web content filtering, traffic scanning, reputation-based detection, and security policy enforcement.

Why it matters

Reduces exposure to common web-based threats as part of a layered security approach.

How this differs from Secure DNS

Basic Web Filtering provides the foundational web-access protection included with CyberSecure packages. Secure DNS is a broader managed service that extends this protection through DNS-layer policy enforcement, centralized administration, and expanded coverage across supported environments.

Key capabilities

  • Malicious website blocking based on threat intelligence and policy.
  • Phishing protection for fraudulent credential/financial-capture sites.
  • Encrypted HTTPS/SSL web traffic scanning when enabled and configured.
  • Web content filtering by category, URL, schedule, user, device, or application.
  • Download & web activity protection, search/website risk warnings, and reporting.

Limitations & scope notes

  • Operates at the endpoint device level and requires the Bitdefender GravityZone agent and applicable modules installed, running, and configured.
  • HTTPS/SSL inspection depends on supported OS, browser/application behavior, certificate approval, and policy configuration.
  • Traffic from unmanaged devices, applications that bypass inspection, or apps using certificate pinning may fall outside scope.
  • Complements but does not replace network-level protections such as firewalls, DNS filtering, or secure web gateways.
